నిన్న ఇవాళ - యాధృచ్చికం, కాకతాళీయం

నిన్న, ఇవాళ ఈ రెండు రోజులలో, సంబంధంలేనివే అయినా, ఎంతో యాధృచ్చికంగాను కాకతాళీయంగాను కొన్ని కొత్త వస్తువులు నా దగ్గరికి చేరాయి.

ఎప్పుడూలేనిది, నిన్న కొంచెం పొద్దున్న నిద్రలేచాను. ఎనిమిదింటికి DELL అతను ఒకతను ఫోను చేసి "మీ replacement battery వచ్చింది, ఇవాళ మీ office లో అందజేస్తాము" అని అన్నాడు. DELL లో వాడబడే SONY batterys కొన్ని అరుదైన సందర్భాలలో నిప్పు వచ్చి మండవచ్చు. కాబట్టి అటువంటి batterys కి ప్రత్యామ్నాయ battery ని అందజేస్తాని DELL ప్రకటించింది. నేను వారి site లో నా battery model సరిచూసుకుని, ప్రత్యామ్నాయ battery కి దరఖాస్తు పెట్టాను.ఆయితే, నేను laptop కొన్నది అమెరికాలో. ఇప్పుడుంటున్నది భారతదేశంలో. కొత్త battery ని ఇంతదూరం పంపుతారో లేదో అన్న అనుమానంతోనే ఇక్కడి చిరునామా ఇచ్చాను. ఇది జరిగి నాలుగునెలలు గడిచాయి. నేను ఈ మాట కూడా మరిచాను. ఇక పంపరేమో అనుకున్నాను. ఇవాళ ఉన్నట్టుండి ఫోను వచ్చింది, అదీ తెల్లారగట్ట ఎనిమిది గంటలకు !!!!! ఫోనులో చెప్పినట్టుగానే కొత్త battery నాకందింది.

ఉద్యోగానికి బయల్దేరేముందు, అన్నయ్య బెంగుళూరు నుంచి వచ్చాడు. "నీకు, నాన్నగారికి రెండు T shirts తెచ్చాను. నీకేది కావాలో చూసుకో, ఇంకోటి నాన్నగారికిస్తాను" అన్నాడు. అనుకోకుండా ఇంకో కొత్త వస్తువు.

సరే, ఉద్యోగానికి వెళ్లాను. అక్కడ, ఎప్పుడూ లేనికి ఈ సంవత్సరం మా office లో ఉద్యోగస్తులందరికీ Yearly Planner, Calendar ఇస్తున్నాము అని టపా ఒచ్చింది. మా సహోద్యోగులతో వెళ్ళి తెచ్చుకున్నాను. ఇంకో కొత్త వస్తువు.

సాయంత్రం ఉద్యోగం అయ్యాక, అమెరికా నుంచి వచ్చిన మా స్కూలు స్నేహితుడిని కలవడానికి వెళ్లాను. అతను నాకు మంచి స్నేహితుడు. flickr లో నా ఫోటోలు చూసి, అందులో నేను వేరే స్నేహితుడి tripod వాడుతున్నాను అని రాసింది చూసి, తను భారతదేశం వచ్చేటపుడు ఒక Tripod తెస్తానన్నాడు. నిన్న నాకు అమెరికా నుంచి తెచ్చిన Tripod ఇచ్చాడు........ ఈ మధ్య నాకు పట్టిన photography వ్యసనానికి ఇదింకొంచం ప్రోద్బలం :-)

ఇక ఇవాళ, నా కాలేజి స్నేహితుడు ద్వారా నాకు ఇంకో వస్తువు చేరింది. నా flickr లోని photos కొన్నిటితో 2007 Table Top Calendar ఒకటి చేయించి నాకు ఇచ్చాడు !!!!!!! నాకు చాలా ముచ్చటేసింది. అసలు నాకు flickr పరిచయమయిందే ఇతని ద్వారా. ఇతని ద్వారానే నేను flickr, photography కి సంబంధించి చాలా విషయాలు తెలుసుకుంటుంటాను. ఇది www.picsquare ద్వారా సాధ్యమయ్యింది.


రెండు రోజులలో ఇన్ని కొత్త వస్తువులు నాకు చేరడం పూర్తిగా కాకతాళీయమే అయినా, ఇలాంటివి ఎప్పుడో గాని జరగవేమో అని అనిపించింది.

అరిటాకులో అమ్మచేతి కమ్మని భోజనం

అవకాశం దొరికనప్పుడల్లా, కారణం కనిపించినప్పుడల్లా ఇంటికి వెళ్లడం ఒక అలవాటయిపోయింది. గడిచిన వారాంతం కూడా ఇంటికి వెళ్లాను.

ఈసారి కారణాలలో ఒకటి, అమ్మ పది మందిని భోజనానికి పిలిచింది...... నేను వుంటే సహాయంగా వుంటానని. ఆమ్మ మనసులో అంతే వుంటే అది అమ్మ మనసు ఎందుకవుతుంది. చేసే రుచికరమైన పదార్థాలు దగ్గరలో ఉన్న కుర్రాడు తిని ఆనందిస్తాడు కదా అన్నది బయటికి చెప్పనవసరంలేని అమ్మ మనసులోని మాట. ఎందుకంటే, నేను అన్నయ్య ఇంట్లో లేనప్పుడు, మాకు ఇష్టమయినవి, లేక ప్రత్యేకమైన వంటకాలు వండినప్పుడు అయ్యో నువ్వు లేవురా అని తరువాత ఫోన్లో అనడం మామూలే.

ఈసారి భోజనానికి వచ్చిన అథితులు పధ్నాలుగు మంది కాక అమ్మ, నాన్నగారు, నేను. వెరసి పదిహేడు మంది.

అమ్మ నేను అందరికీ వడ్డించాము. తరువాత అమ్మ ఆడవారికి పళ్ళు, తాంబూలాలు ఇచ్చాక, ఇద్దరం కలిసి భోజనం చేసాము.

పదిహేడు మందికి ఒక్క చేత్తో, వేరే వాళ్ల సహాయం లేకుండా వండేసింది అమ్మ. వడ్డనలో మాత్రమే నేను సహాయం చేసాను.

అసలు అరిటాకులో భోజనం అంటేనే అదో తెలియని రుచి కలుగుతుంది నాకు. ఇక కింద కూర్చుని, పదిమందికి వడ్డించి తరువాత తినడం.... అన్నింటికీ మించి అమ్మచేతి వంట. ఇక చెప్పక్కర్లేదు.

Restaurants కి వెళ్ళి order చేసి తినడం, functions కి వెళ్ళి (అవి అచ్చమైన ఆంధ్రా వయినా) నుంచుని buffet లు తినడం మధ్య అప్పుడప్పుడు ఇలాంటి భోజనాలు జిహ్వకి, కడుపుకి, మనసుకీ కూడా సంతృప్తినిస్తాయి.

A) Again, to enter into a new product category you don't have to acquire companies. I mean, you guys are starting to sound like Investment Bankers... (crowd bursts in to laughter)... sorry, cheap shot... but...you know.. These Investment Bankers come and say you should buy this , you should buy that... Just becasue you have $ 8.6 billion in cash, it doesn't mean you should buy things... (crowd erupts again) We have a saying in Texas "Nobody ever went broke having too much cash".

He then answers about Dell's take at the PDA market .....

What a diametrically opposite view about acquisitions !!!! And I liked his dig at the Investment Bankers :-)

Q) It was rumored that you are interested in acquiring Legend(China's leading PC maker)... and if that is not the case, what are your plans roughly to compete with them?

A) Oh, I haven't heard that rumor before..... I didn't know they were for Sale? (crowd laughs) ...



Well, working for a S/W company that has made about a dozen purchases of Application Companies in the last two years, including a couple of multi billion purchases, and trying to fuse them all together into a next generation Application suite, this view comes as an even more contrasting one.

May be different strategies work for different companies
May be the same stragey works differently for different companies
May be the same company employs different strategies at different times
I am not sure..

but, looks like Michael Dell isn't too convinced about Investment Bankers trying to teach him strategies.

Dell's lecture and his answers weren't very mesmerising for the aura that usually surrounds a super successful businessman. It wasn't very dramatic or emotional. Infact, he hardly spoke for a couple of minutes and opened the floor for questions. But he had a good sense of humour and it showed in a few of responses. Some of his responses were too short and abrupt too.

కార్తీక పౌర్ణమి దీపాలు

కార్తీక పౌర్ణమి రోజు తెలుగునాట అంతా ఆడవాళ్ళు శివాలయంలో దీపాలు వెలిగిస్తారు. ఇది నేను మా కాలనీలోని శివాలయంలో తీసిన ఫొటొ. అసలు, కార్తీక మాసం మొత్తం రెందు సంధ్యల్లో దీపాలు వెలిగించడానికి చాల విశిష్టత ఉంది అంటారు. ఆ మాటకొస్తే, మన సనాతన జీవనవిధానంలో దీపం వెలిగించడం, దీపారాధన, జ్యోతి ప్రజ్వలనికి ఒక ప్రశస్తమైన స్థానం వుంది. ఙ్ఞానాన్ని మన పూర్వికులు జ్యోతితో నిర్వచించారు.

ఇలాంటి గొప్ప అలోచన, అలవాటు గురించి తెలిసి, దానిని కొద్దో గొప్పో తరచూ చూస్తూ ఉండి, పుట్టినరోజు జరుపుకోడానికి దీపాలని అర్పివేయడం అనేది నేను ఎప్పుడూ జీర్ణించుకోలేని విషయం.

ఈ దీపావళికి మా నాన్నగారి ప్రయత్నం వల్ల తామరపువ్వులు లభ్యమయ్యాయి. లక్ష్మీదేవిని తామరపువ్వులతో పూజించే భాగ్యం కలిగినందుకు అమ్మ ఎంతో ఆనందించింది.

మన వైదిక సనాతన వాఙ్ఞ్మయంలో "పద్మం" యొక్క ప్రాముఖ్యత అంతా ఇంతా కాదు. అమ్మవారిని కూడా పద్మ, పద్మిని, పద్మజ, పద్మాసని ఇలా చాలా విధాలుగా సంబోధిస్తారు. పైగా వర్ణనల్లో కూదా చాలా విరివిగా పద్మాన్ని వాడుతారు.

ముఖ్యంగా లక్ష్మీదేవి పద్మాసని కాబట్టి, పద్మముల మధ్య ఆసీనులైవున్న లక్ష్మీదేవిని మా అమ్మ ఊహించి, దానికి ఒక రూపం ఇస్తే నేను ఫొటో తీసాను.

మంచినీళ్ళు - పంచుకోవడం

నేను మా ఊరుకి దగ్గరగానే ఉద్యోగం చేస్తుంటాను కాబట్టి తరచూ ఇంటికి వెళ్తుంటాను. ఇలా ఇంటికి రైలులో వెళ్ళేటప్పుదు సాధారణ (general)తరగతిలో ప్రయాణం. సొంత సంపాదన వచ్చాక రైలు ఎక్కిన ప్రతిసారీ ఒక మినరల్ వాటర్ బాటిల్, బిస్కట్లు కొనుక్కొని బండి ఎక్కడం పరిపాటి. బండి పైనుంచి వస్తుంది కాబట్టి ప్రయాణికులు బాగానే ఉంటారు. ఇక దారిలో ఆగిన ప్రతి స్టేషనులో ఇంకొంతమంది ఎక్కుతారు. వెరసి, సాధారణంగా రైలు ప్రయాణీకులతో కిటకిటలాడుతూ ఉంటుంది.

వేసవి కాలంలో ఎండ ఎక్కువగా ఉంటుంది. అలాంటి ఒక ప్రయాణంలో, నేను మంచినీళ్ళు తాగటం చూసి, "దాహమేస్తొంది కొంచెం మంచినీళ్ళు ఇవ్వు బాబు" అని ఒక ముసలావిడ అడిగింది. మనసు వెంటనే మొహమాటపడింది. కొంచెం అయిష్టంగానే ఆ ముసలావిడకి బాటిలిచ్చాను. ఆవిడ తాగిన్నని తాగి, ఒళ్ళో ఉన్న మనడికి కొన్ని పోసి, కొన్నే నీళ్ళు మిగిలిన బాటిల్ నాకిచ్చింది. ఆవిడ తాగడమే కాకుండా, మనవడికి కూడా పట్టించి, కొన్ని నీళ్ళు మాత్రమే మిగిల్చి ఇవ్వడం నా మనసులో ఉన్న ఆ చెప్పలేని అసహన భావాన్ని ఇంకొంచం పెంచింది. సరె, కాసేపటికి ఏదో పుస్తకం చదవటంలో పడి గమ్యం చేరడం, తరువాత రోజు ఉద్యోగానికి వెళ్ళడం - షరా మామూలు జీవితం.

ఇవాళ ఇంటిలో plumber పని చేయడానికి ఇద్దరు వచ్చారు. పని చేస్తూ మధ్యలో ఒకతను "కొన్ని మంచి నీళ్ళు కావాలి" అని అడిగాడు. "తప్పకుండా" అని ఇద్దరికీ మంచినీళ్ళు తెద్దామని వంటింటికి వెళ్ళాను. చెంబు తీసాక, ఏంటో, "తప్పకుండా" అని అన్నప్పటి నాకు, చెంబునింపుతన్న నాకు, అర్థంకాని తేడా తోచింది. వాళ్ళకి రెండు గ్లాసులిచ్చి చెంబుతో నీళ్ళు పోసి "చాల"న్నాక మళ్ళి వంటింటికి వెళ్ళాను. అప్పుడు మెల్ల, మెల్లగా నా మనసులోని ఆ తేడాకి కారణం అర్థమయ్యింది. రెండు వారాల క్రితం వరకూ ఇంటిలో మామూలు మంచినీళ్ళు ఉండేవి. మొన్నీమధ్యనుంచే, మినెరల్ వాటర్ తెప్పిస్తున్నాము. డబ్బు పెట్టి కొన్న మంచినీళ్ళు అయ్యేసరికి, ఉత్తపుణ్యాన ఇవ్వడమంటె నా మనసుకి కష్టం తోచింది. అప్పుడు అర్థమయ్యింది ఆ రోజు రైలులో ముసలావిడకి మంచినీళ్ళు ఇవ్వడానికి నేను పడ్డ మొహమాటానికి అసలు కారణం.

ఆహా, ఎంత మార్పు. చిన్నప్పుడు రైలోలో ఢిల్లీ వెళ్తున్నప్పుడు, పక్క వాళ్ళు ఎవరు నీళ్ళు అడిగినా దాహం తీర్చడనికి ముందుండే మ పెద్దమ్మని చూసి, ఆ గుణం అలవర్చుకుని సంతృప్తి చెందే మనసుని, ఇంట్లో పనిచేసేవాళ్ళకి దాహమేస్తే, వారికి "చాలండి" అనే వరకు మంచినీళ్ళు పోసి ఆనందపడే మనసుని, "మంచినీళ్ళు కొనడం" అనే నిన్న మొన్నటి అలవాటు ఎంత మార్చేసింది? చేరకూడని చోట్లకి కూడా డబ్బు చేరి, "నేను డబ్బు మనిషిని కాదు" అని అనుకొనే నా మనసులోకి చేపకింద నీరులా చేరి ఇంతా మైకం కప్పుతుందని అనుకోలెదు !!!!

బ్రహ్మం గారి కాలఙ్ఞానంలో "పాలు, నీళ్ళు అమ్ముకుంటారు" అని చెప్పారని విన్నాను. చాల్లె చోద్యం, "పాలు" అమ్ముకోకుండా, free గా పంచుతారా ఏమిటి అనుకునేవాడిని. నేడు సాటి మనిషికి మంచినీళ్ళిచ్చి దాహం తీర్చడానికి కూడ ఈ అమ్ముకోవడం అడ్డుపడుతోందంటె, ఒకప్పుడు, పాలని కూడ అమ్ముకోకుండ ఉన్న స్థాయి ఎక్కడ, నేటి స్థాయి ఎక్కడ.

ఇంత ఆలోచించాక కూడా, నా తార్కిక మనసుకి ఒచ్చే వాదనలు ఇలా ఉన్నాయి.

"ఏం, ఏదో నేను చెడ్డవాడిని అయిపోయినట్లు విమర్శిస్తావేం? పాతిక రూపయలు పెట్టి, పెప్సి బాటిల్ కొన్నావనుకో, రైలులో పక్కవాడు "కాస్త తాగిస్తాను" అంటే, "తప్పకుండా. ఇదిగో తీసుకోండి" అని ఇస్తావా? ఇదీ అంతే కదా?"

నేను మాత్రం దానిని అంగీకరించలేకపోతున్నాను. అలాగని, మనుసుని తార్కికంగా ఖండించలేకపోతున్నాను......

A small reason for me to post 0n Mahatma Gandhi's birthday - it was a pleasant coincidence that I finished a re-read of "The Story of my experiments with truth" last week. My regard for the book and the person has only grown after the re-read.

I came across a thought provoking perspective to one of Gandhiji's principles in an article I read in The Hindu, Sunday magazine.

" On the contrary, M.K. Gandhi's greatest legacy to India and the world was a form of political agitation called "civil disobedience", which frequently did lead to violence but which was so original a philosophy that it worked in certain circumstances and against certain regimes. One such authority was the British in India, a Government and a civilisation that believed in the rule of law, respected the judiciary and had a comparatively better record on human rights than other colonial power.

Had Nazi Germany been the colonial power in India, we would never have heard of Gandhi one mile into the `Dandi march'. Hypothetically speaking, what would have happened if six million Jews in Central Europe used `civil disobedience' to protest the death camps? Absolutely nothing. It was a military dictatorship. If Iraqis today used such a political philosophy to protest the occupation of their country by Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld? Absolutely nothing. The truth is that for `civil disobedience' to work, you need both sides to play by the rules. The opposition you disobey has to be civilian, largely law abiding and at least partially democratic."


That for 'civil disobedience' to work, you need both sides to play by the rules. and also that the opposition you disobey has to be civilian, largely law abiding and at least partially democratic is a very stirring thought. That it had worked only because the opposition was British, doesn't go well with me. My heart doesn't accept it though the argument he advanced sounds logical to the mind. I need to dwell upon this more for clarity.

ఈtv - 2 లొ ఆదివారం నాడు ప్రసారమయ్యే, "తెలుగు వెలుగు" కార్యక్రమంలో, క్రితం వారం జాషువ గురించి ప్రత్యేక ప్రస్తావన చేసారు। అప్పుడు తెలిసింది, Sept 29 ఆయన జయంతి అని।

నాకు నచ్చిన తెలుగు కవులలో జాషువ ఒకరు। ఈ బ్లాగుని ఆయన గబ్బిలం మీద ఒక విమర్శకుడు రాసిన వ్యాసంతో మొదలుపెట్టాను।

నేను చిన్నప్పుడు తెలుగు వాచకములోని పద్యభాగంలో పై పద్యం చదువుకున్నాను। పాఠం పేరు "రాజు కవి" అనుకుంటా। సరిగ్గా జ్ఞాపకంలేదు। ఈ పాఠం ఏడవ తరగతి లోనిదో లేక ఎనినిమిదవ తరగతి లోనిదో అనుకుంటా। అది కూడా సరిగ్గా జ్ఞాపకంలేదు। కాని, ఆ పాఠం, అందులోని ఈ పద్యం, ముఖ్యంగా పద్య భావం నాలో బాగా నాటుకున్నాయి।

Photoblog of Kalleda Rurual School on Flickr

I was casually glancing through a Bay Area Ashtavadhanam photos on Flickr when a comment on a photo caught me by surprise. The photo of the user, that familiar school going girl of AP - two braided plaits, neatly done in white ribbons (రెండు జడలు, తెల్ల రిబ్బన్లు) first impressed me. I thought it may be some one's childhood photo. But the comment on this ashtavadhanam photo confused me further.

I then browsed through the girl's flickr profile / photos and was surprised to find that she is studying in "Kalleda Rural School", in Ravoor Village, Warangal Dist. The school kids have flickr a/c s and post their daily life pictures !!!!! Amazing. The school is supported by India Rural Development Fund that has quite few Telugu people on the board and hence the Andhra School I guess.

There is a Kalleda Photo Blog and the students are listed in this group's contacts. Even a cursory look at the photos is so inspiring. Their enthusiasm doesn't stop with just posting the photos. What impressed me was that they are venturing to comment too !! And the above comment from the 10th standard girl on "ashtavadhanam" just bowled me over.

I also saw a white lady who was involved in this effort. She has a flickr account too and these kids post their comments on her photos. Here is a very beautiful photo of this foriegn lady draped in that 6 yards of Indian feminine grace, called sari.


The learning in this whole episode is that the only thing that seperates the rural Indian children from the so called corporate educated, urban kids is, access to better infrastructure and exposure to technology.

After all, once you have the seeds, all it matters is how you water them and how conducive a field you sow them in.

దాని గురించి ఆసక్తికరమైన ఈ సంఘటన నేను "విశ్వనాథ ఒక కల్పవృక్షం" అనే పుస్తకంలో చదివాను।

'కిన్నెరసాని' ఒక అందమైన పేరు। కాని ఒక దొరసాని గారికి ఆ పేరు చాలా వికటంగా తోచింది। గురువుగారే చెప్పారు ఈ విషయం।
"నేను కిన్నెరసాని పాటలు వ్రాసే నాటికే గొప్ప కవినని అభిమానించిన శ్రీ సురవరం ప్రతాపరెడ్డి గారు నాకు సహాయం చేయించాలని ఒక నిజాం జమీందారు ఇంటికి తీసుకువెళ్ళారు। ఆ జమీందారు చనిపోయి కొద్ది కాలమైంది। ఆయన గారి భార్య వుంది। పరదా చాటున ఆమె, ఇవతల నేను। నన్ను ఆమెకు పరిచయం చేశారు। ఆమె విజ్ఞురాలని నాకు చెప్పారు। ఆమె పరదాచాటున వుండి "కవిగారూ! మీరు సంప్రదాయ బద్ధంగా రాసారన్నారు। కాని సాని పాటలు వ్రాశారేమిటి?" అన్నది
నేను ఎంత పొగరుబోతునైనా వినయం తక్కువైన వాడిని కాదు కదా! "అమ్మా కిన్నెరసాని అన్నది ఒకవాగు పేరు కదా! దాని పేరుతో దాని గురించి వ్రాయటంలో తప్పేమిటి?" అన్నాను। ఆమె ఊరుకో వచ్చు కదా! అబ్బే ఏమైనా సాని సానే అన్నది। పరదా లోపల పెదవి విరుచుకుని వుంటుంది। నేను వెంటనే "అలాగా అమ్మా! ఇందాకటి నుండి తమను తమ పరిచారకులు దొరసాని గారు దొరసాని గారు అంటే ఏమో అనుకున్నాను। ఇంక సెలవు వస్తాను" అని చెరచెరా బైటికి వచ్చేశాను।

అక్కడనే ఉన్న శ్రీ రెడ్డి గారు, దేశముఖ్ గడగడ లాడి పోతూ ఆమెకేమో చెప్పుకుని బయటకు వచ్చారు। "ఇవ్వాళ ఎంత పనిచేశావయ్యా? ఆమె నిన్ను అరెస్టు చేయవచ్చు। ఏమైనా చేయవచ్చు।" అని అన్నారు।
"ఏమయ్యేది? చంపుతుందా ? అదే నయం। యదార్ధం చెప్పడానికి భయపడటం కన్న అది నయం కదూ। శబ్దానికి అర్థం తెలియని ప్రతివాడూ విమర్శకుడైతే చచ్చేచావు కదండీ? తమ బ్రతుకే తమకు తెలియని వాళ్ళు కవుల తప్పులెన్నేవాళ్ళా? సందర్భం నుండి పదాలను విడగొట్టి కవుల తప్పులెన్నే వాళ్ళని చూస్తే నాకు ఒళ్ళు మంట" అన్నాను।
అప్పుడు రెడ్డిగారు నవ్వుతూ కారులో కూర్చొని "ఏమయితే ఏం? ఇవాళ నూటపదహార్లు పోగొట్టుకున్నా" అన్నారు।
"నా అభిమానం పోగొట్టుకోలేదు। అదే నాకు పదివేలు" అన్నాను నేను।

ఇంతకీ ఇదంతా ఎందుకంటే, "కిన్నెరసాని" అంటే నాకు కూడా అభిమానమే। నా బ్లాగు పేరు అదేకదా మరి ! నేను నా చిన్నతనమంతా కొత్తగూడెం లో గడిపాను। కిన్నెరసాని అక్కడికి చాలా దగ్గర। కిన్నెరసాని డాముకి రెండు మూడు సార్లు వెళ్ళాను। ఊహ తెలిసాక, సితార సినిమాలో "కిన్నెరసాని వచ్చిందమ్మా వెన్నల పైటేసి " అనే పాట నన్నాకర్షింది। కొంచెం తెలుగు సాహిత్యం గురించి తెలిసాక, విశ్వనాథ సత్యనారాయణగారు కిన్నెరసాని పాటలు రాసారని తెలిసి ఆనందించాను। నేను నా బ్లాగుకి ప్రాంతీయమైన తెలుగు పదంకోసం చూసినప్పుడు "కిన్నెరసాని" పేరే నాకు తట్టింది।

ధన మూల మిదం జగత్ - అసలు మూలం?

"ధన మూలం మిదం జగత్" అని అందరూ అంటూ వుంటారు। అది వాల్మీకి రామాయణం లో శ్రీరామునితో లక్ష్మణుడు అనిన మాట।

ధనమార్జయ కాకుత్థ్స - ధన మూల మిదం జగత్
అంతరం నాభి జానామి - నిర్ధనస్య మృతస్య చ!!

ఓ కాకుత్థ్స వంశ తిలకా! రామా! ఈ లోకానికి ధనమే ప్రధానం కాబట్టి ధనాన్ని బాగా సంపాదించు! డబ్బులేని వాడు చచ్చిన వానితో సమానం। వీరిద్దరికీ తేడా లేదని శ్లోక భావం। లక్ష్మణుడీ మాటను లంకలో రావణ మరణానంతరం అన్నాడు। దానికి శ్రీరాముడు చాలా గంభీరంగా యుగయుగాలకు సరిపడా -

అపి స్వర్ణమయీ లంకా - న మే రోచతి లక్ష్మణ
జననీ జన్మభూమిశ్చ - స్వర్గాదపి గరీయసి!!

అని సమాధానం చెప్పాడు। ఆ ప్రబోధం మానవ శిరోరత్నం కదా! 'లక్ష్మణా! లంక బంగారమే కావచ్చు కానీ నాకు యిష్టం లేదు। జనని, జన్మభూమి స్వర్గం కంటె గొప్పవి సుమా!' అని యీ శ్లోక భావం।

పై మూల శ్లోకాలు, వాటి భావాలు నేను 'నవ్వుటద్దాలు' అనే పుస్తకంలో మూలాలు - మూల్యాలు అనే విషయంలో చదివాను। ఈ పుస్తకాన్ని ఆచార్య తిరుమల గారు రచించారు। కొన్ని చమత్కార , హాస్యరస పద్యాలను, చాటువులను ఈ పుస్తకంలో వివరించారు। ఈ 'మూలాలు - మూల్యాలు' విషయంలో మాత్రం, మనం తరచూ వినే వాటికి అసలయిన అమూల్యమైన మూలాలను మనకు అందించారు।

Gandhigiri - Lage Raho Munnabhai

I watched Lage Raho Munnabhai on Saturday afternoon. The last hindi movie that I watched, in a theatre, spending money, and that which I vividly remember is Lagaan, which is pre 2002. Well, if I do strain my memory, I can recollect a couple of absolutely forgettable movie outings while at Pune in 2003-2004. During that period it was hard to come to terms to pay 150 bucks for a movie. Back home, here in Andhra, for an almost similar "movie watching" experience people pay < 50, even in Hyderabad. Well, in Pune they were multiplexes and it was supposed to be "movie-going" experience and not just "movie-watching".

Anyways, back to present. Why then "Lage Raho Munnabhai" after such a long gap? No I didn't watch Munnabhai MBBS. My exposure to it is those bits & pieces that I watched and a few things that I heard / read about it. I didn't watch the Telugu remake of it either. My interest in Munnabhai MBBS was as ordinary as in any other box office successful Hindi / Telugu movie. Then, why did I watch Lage Raho Munnabhai while it is just into its 2nd week in the theatres.

The answer is "Gandhi Connection". Hmmm, no, not "Gandhi" connection... The word Gandhi has been abused too much in the post independence political arena. I will rather name it "Mahatma Gandhi Connection" or better "Bapu Connection" as he is referred to in the movie or the "Gandhigiri Connection".

Yes, the film features Mahatma Gandhi as a character. I read in a review that the protaganist of the movie, Munnabhai, finds Mahatma Gandhi as his companion and takes up his principles (Gandhigiri) to transform his and his fellow peoples' lives. A Mahatma Gandhi admirer that I am, it is an enough reason for me to buy a ticket to the earliest available show and see this Gandhigiri in the movie myself.

It is a well made movie. That its pulling audience in large numbers to watch Gandhigiri is an acheivement in itself. I say this because of an article I read in Hindu. In Hyderabad Exhibition grounds where a consumer electronics exhibition was going on, a Gandhi Darshan Hall was setup that screened documentaries on Gandhi and displayed some very rare photographs of Bapu. Few of the photographs were flown all the way from Rajghat, Delhi. And amongst the thousands of visitors who thronged the Industrial Exhibition, the percentage of people who visited Gandhi Darshan was less tha 0.1% . Here's a photo reg that article.

Well, I do accept that its the reality. A child may not be willing to swallow a pill or something that is bland / tasteless, though it is very important for his health. A Doctor / Mother will find it far more easier to make the child have it by adding a morsel of tastier / spicier food to it than simply forcing him to swallow it as is. It actually works. (When we were kids, my mother used to make bitter gourd curry with jaggery and we never complained to eat it. చిన్నప్పుడు మా అమ్మ బెల్లంపెట్టి కాకరకాయ కూర చేసినట్టన్నమాట। మేము పేచి పెట్టకుండా తినేసేవాళ్లం। ) So, very few walked into a Gandhi Darshan exhibition hall to watch & feel about peace, non-violence, strength of truth, satyagaraha etc..... whereas munnabhai ka masala, thoda maamugiri, few tapori dialogues, music & dance, a beautiful female... all brought in audience in lakhs to see Gandhigiri. I give you due credit, Mr Raju Hirani. The movie has received good acclaim and great opening collections and is termed a very big Hit. Fair enough.

Now, coming to my personal opinion.... factually, it didn't increase my Gandhi knowledge by a bit. Hey, wait. It actually did. I never knew that October 2 is also called Dry Day (as in Liqour Dry) ("డ్రైడే అయిన గాంధీ జయంతి నాడు కూడా బ్రాంది కోసం బారులు వెతికే మొహమూ నువ్వునూ" అని ఏ తెలుగు సినిమాలోనో డైలాగు ఉంటే తెలిసేదేమో !!) Nor did it influence me about the efficacy of Gandhi's principles. So, Lage Raho Munnabhai, ya, Naa Lage Raho Munnabhai, I remain the same. An ardent admirer or Bapu. I am anyways the guy who enjoys the Gandhigiri pill as is. (And yes, my mother slowly got us used to eating the bitter gourd curry too as is, without any jaggery). To me a re-read of "My Experiments with Truth" is a better way of reminding myself about gandhigiri.

Well, I also have some qualms about the movie. The protaganist who played Munnabhai, the man who preaches and practises Gandhigiri, Sanjay Dutt, has been arrested earlier under TADA in connection with 1993 Mumbai blasts. The final verdict will be delivered on Sept 12. I know, his duty in the movie was just to act, which he did with great commitment. But, aren't they, the same guys who are supposed to leave an impact about gandhigiri on the audience? And aren't they the same who go gaga about the message that the movie conveys, during press meets etc etc. Well, acting seems to be one profession which doesn't need a background check at all. ( I would have added politics to it too, but recently, atleast theoretically , a non-criminal background was made mandatory.) I know I am putting a very old happening of Sanjay Dutt in focus. And if the person has actually had nothing to do with it and indeed opts gandhigiri in his life, then I will be among his admirers. My point is, while we appreciate the conviction in the movie and make movies huge commercial successes, we should not remain cold and un-responsive to the actors' misdeeds.

And I strongly feel, beyond the make believe silver screen, gandhigiri is the best hit formula on the realistic world screen in these days of continous turmoil.

నేటికి అన్వయించుకోవాలంటే, పత్రికల స్థానంలో TV channels ని చేరిస్తే సరి !!!!!

ఇది నేను ఒప్పుకోను। శ్రీశ్రీ చుసిన పరిసరాలలో, పరిస్థుతలలో, ప్రజలలో ఇది నిజమేమో। ఇప్పటికి కూడా సురాపానానికి దూరంగా ఉండేవారు చాలా మంది ఉన్నారు।

ఇది చాలా బావుంది :-) ఇక్కడ కూడా సారా సాగా (saga) సాగింది। శ్రీశ్రీ కాస్త ఎక్కువ సేవించేవారేమో!!!

సిప్రాలి - శ్రీశ్రీ - సిగరెట్టిస్తా, శతకం రాసిస్తావా?

ఒక సంపాదకుడు శ్రీశ్రీ కలలో కనబడి పద్యాలు రాయమని అడిగాడని ఇక్కడ ఊహ। ఇంతకీ ఆ వ్యక్తి చక్రపాణి - అసలు పేరు ఆలూరి వెంకటసుబ్బారావుగారు (1903 - 1975) ఆంధ్రజ్యోతి (మాసపత్రిక) సంపాదకుడు। యువపత్రిక (పాతది, కొత్తది కూడా) ప్రచురణ సంస్థ వ్యవస్థాపకుడు। చలం, కొడవటిగంటి కుటుంబరావు మొదలైన వారి రచనలను ప్రచురించారు। బడదీది, పల్లీయులు, దేవదాసు వగయిరా శరత్ నవలలను అనువదించి ప్రచురించారు। 'చందమామ' వ్యవస్థాపకులు - విజయ పిక్చర్సు అధినేతలయిన నాగిరెడ్డి, చక్రపాణిల్లో ఒకరు। "మాయాబజార్" లాంటి మరపురాని తెలుగు సినిమాలని నిర్మించిన సంస్థ విజయ పిక్చర్సు।

శ్రీశ్రీ వి "సిరిసిరిమువ్వా" అనే మకుటంతో ఉండే కంద పద్యాలు అక్కడక్కడ కొన్ని చూసాను। శ్రీశ్రీ ఛందస్సులో పద్యాలు రాసారని నాకు అంతకు ముందు తెలీదు। పద్యాలు అంటే నాకు ఇష్టం। కంద పద్యాలంటే మరీ ఇష్టం। ఇక శ్రీశ్రీ రచించినవి అంటే అదింకొక ప్రత్యేకత। వెరసి ఎప్పటినుంచో అవి ఉన్న పుస్తకం సంపాదించాలునుకున్నాను। మొత్తానికి ఈ మధ్యనే అది సాధ్యపడింది। శ్రీశ్రీ వి మరికొన్ని పద్యాలు చేర్చి "సిప్రాలి" అనే పుస్తంలో ప్రచురించారు। అది పాత ప్రచురణ। దాని ప్రతి ఒకటి నాకు లభ్యమయ్యింది। సిప్రాలి అనే పేరులోనె ప్రత్యేకత ఉంది। ఆ పేరు "సిరిసిరిమువ్వా", "ప్రాసక్రీడలు", "లిమఋక్కులు" లోని మొదటి అక్షరాలు। ఇవి ఈ పుస్తకంలోని మూడు భాగాలు !
ఈ పుస్తకంలో నన్ను ఆకర్షించిన కొన్ని పద్యాలు ఇక్కడ రాస్తున్నాను।
